Assignment 1: Favourite Store (Felicia)

AIIZ, a fashion retail shop with outlets in numerous shopping malls all over Thailand, is my favourite shop. Every time I travel to Thailand for a family vacation, this is the shop that my sister and I will definitely pay a visit to. With its warm and welcoming ambience that the friendly staff help create, this shop is sure to attract potential and existing costumers, both foreign and local. The décor of the shop is suitable as well, with the lights a warm shade – neither too harsh nor too dim, and bright wall colours. All these add to the warm and friendly atmosphere of the stores. Large shop spaces give the outlets a spacious feel, allowing for appropriate space between each clothing rack, giving costumers adequate space to browse leisurely, as opposed to the compact, crowded appearance of many other shops that makes shopping there inevitably frustrating.

The store attracts quite a broad spectrum of people, though not as wide as, perhaps, departmental stores. Mostly, teens and working people, both males and females, patronize this shop, including tourists like myself. This is probably because their clothes are affordable without compromising on quality. The clothes sold are divided into two main sections in the outlets, male and female, and further subdivided into working and casual wear. This makes it easy for people to locate the type of clothes they are looking for. By diversifying the designs and types of their clothes, they manage to attract both the teenagers and the working class, even though these two groups wear considerably differing outfits. Then too, Thais are well- known for their hospitality and friendliness. This makes shopping at the store enjoyable, with friendly staff ready to help each and every costumer with a cheerful smile on the face.

Personally, AIIZ is my favourite shop, though it is situated in another country, because their clothes designs are simple, yet trendy and sophisticated, carrying a wide range, from daily casual wear to more formal wears for work. All these are sold at affordable prices (especially for those tourists who have the advantage of a stronger currency on their side!), making the shop all the more desirable to me. Hopefully, AIIZ’s management will soon decide to expand into the international arena, so that Singaporeans too can shop at this wonderful store without the expensive inconvenience of flying all the way to Thailand.

As a typical Singaporean, i would say that the main attractive point of AllZ will be the price. Thailand shops are popular among singaporeans mainly because our currency is much stronger than theirs. Thus if the shop were to expand into the international arena, it will lose its strongest selling point - its price. And it would not be easy for it to compete with already established local stores.

i agree! when it comes down to actually shopping for clothes, price is a major factor, if all other factors like quality of goods and material are above a certain standard. when it comes to window-shopping (which i'm doing a lot nowadays -_-), what matters most to me is variety. i love weird clothes!

yes i've only been to thailand once, six years ago, but the shopping experience was good! the prices definitely appeal to us, and the quality of the clothes and shoes there are not bad too- i can vouch for that! singaporeans love bargaining over there too, which is fine by my opinion but it becomes not fine when people push it too far and treat the thai salespeople rudely.

I feel that another selling point in Thailand is the wider spectrum of products available there. This maybe due to the larger market present over there which allows sustainability.

Personally, I believe another reason that attribute to Thailand being a favourite shopping point is the "must shop" mindset, even if it was to be window shopping.
