okay so this is probably one of the hardest assignments so far, because I took the whole of last week t think of the decisions that are suitable for this discussion and somehow, I realized that the major decisions I've made so far are mostly regarding my academic life, which would be a bore. Because who wants to read 2 x 9 = 18 decisions about SCHOOL ONLY!
So I thought through and these are the best examples (I think) I have.
1) A decision that I framed to0 widely
I can't find a better example. A decision that I felt I framed to widely would be when I was deciding the subjects to take in Secondary three. I chose my subjects by predicting how it would effect my future. Of course, there is nothing wrong with considering your future, but I actually thought of how it would effect me when I'm taking my DEGREE or PHD or what type of career path I want to take. And my mistake? Well I did not look at the direct implications first. I was so caught up thinking of how it would be in the future, putting things into perspective actually slipped my mind. Instead of thinking whether I should just take physics instead of Biology because I could always do biology later (since the government just introduced the "you- can- take- BIOLOGY- later- scheme")or what kind of degree I would like to take, I should have first considered what were my interests, my strengths and also my weaknesses. Thus, I would take this as a decision I framed too widely.
2) A decision I framed too narrowly
This would probably be when I decided to take up debating in my secondary school life. It was a narrow decision as I did not think of the consequences in the long run. I took up for the main reason that my teachers wanted me to, everyone thinks that debating would improve my profile and it was prestigious. I was thinking short term, you know more of the glory and how it would be nice if it showed up in my portfolio. I also did not mind debating. However, I was already holding three major CCAs at that time and I even had a third language to deal with. I think the frame was too narrow as I did not consider the consequences or impact this extra CCA would have on my other aspects of life. These are such as my academic life, my free time with my family or even how it may result in me compromising the quality of my other commitments and responsibility. Thus, I should have widen my perspective by first evaluating my performance in the other areas that could be affected or compromised by this action of mine, of getting a new CCA. Also, I should not have made the decision of joining in the debates society just because of "popular talk" and because of the quantity (to only matter about the prestige)
I did not join in the end as I found out that I could not commit myself after a while, while I was just helping out in the debates society during my free time. Also, due to my sudden possibility plus persuaded interest of joining the debates team, my teacher had planned for my performing team (another section of the club), to be closed down as she deemed that it did not bring much prestige to the school. Seeing this, I decided to stay on to defend the section which I was heading and felt that the decision I made was probably a narrowly framed and a mistake.
